iPad causing a paradigm shift?
There are lot of white noise buzzing on the net that the iPad is killing off the computer and Netbook market, and other segments of the way we live our life. It's almost a year since I got my iPad and these are the changes that it has manifested in my life:
1. I read my New York Times on my iPad, my experienced with this app is smooth and quick. So, I canceled my newspaper subscriptions to The Globe and Mail, and NewYork Times.
2. I use my iPad as a navigator from my location and in the car. So, when I traded in my car with a factory installed navigator, I dropped this options and avoided a $2,000 navigator.
3. Every night when I get home from work I grab my iPad and check my emails, read articles, browse the web, Facebook, twitter, watch TV , chat with my wife, while chilling on couch. So, I stopped using the netbook.
4. I check my banking accounts more frequently, since the apps are easy to use. So, I rarely go on my laptop to do my banking.
5. I'm reading more books and especially the classics on my iPad. It is very convenient and I don't need to turn on my bedside lights for reading. So, I reduced the amount of books I purchased and broaden my genre.
6. I conveniently browse for magazines and purchase the issues I need. It sure beat paying an annual subscriptions or heading to the bookstore for a recommended read. So, I read a broader genre but spending more on magazines.
7. I borrow books from the library and read them on my iPad and no need to worry about late fees. So, I don't need to rush to the library and pickup my book I requested.
8. Wow, watching movies on my iPad with my Phillips headphones are awesome. Netflix is awesome and so accessible on my iPad. iTunes rental are more affordable than Blockbuster. So, I stopped renting movies from Blockbuster and use Netflix and iTunes.
9. My new born son pictures and videos are on Picasa and my iPad. When friends come by I simple pass the iPad with a slideshow of my son pictures. So, I rarely print pictures, nothing beat the iPad experience and wow factor.
10. I can use my iPad for two days without charging it, since the battery is excellent. So, no power cable, no hot laptop, no rushing to charge.... full satisfaction.
This is not an exhaustive list of positive experiences but I'm sure you have garner the cause and effect of the iPad on my life. Unfortunately I don't have a camera since I'm one of those early adopter. But, with facetime and Skype I'm sure my wife would be using the iPad more than I.
Therefore, I can safely say that the iPad is causing a paradigm shift in our computer usage and lifestyle. Go and get an iPad, because it is WiFi and 3G ready, light, easy to use, long battery life, easy to travel, sleek and sexy.

HP Pre 3 (Palm Pre 3)
Palm used to be the leader with PDA and touchscreen but somehow they lost their mojo along the way of coolness. HP acquired Palm and have released the new HP Pre3, which runs HP webos. The HP Pre3 is a slick device with an awesome OS but somehow it is not gaining traction in the business market.
The device screen size, weight, thickness, and memory are comparable to the BlackBerry Torch. The processor is more than double the speed of the Torch. Overall it is a great device for business users.
Both phones are bulky and weighty, but business functionality are superb and elegant. In fact the Pre has a business edge over the Torch owing to the busy display of the Torch, in its vanilla form.

Why would I need BlackBerry Messenger on Android and iPhone?
It would be cool to have BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on an iPhone or Android phone, since I'm very familiar with BBM interface. The challenge today is switching from BBM, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, Whatsapp to keep in-touch with my friend and family, and business colleague.
For BBM to be effective on the iPhone and Android, it MUST BE fully integrated with the current BBM server, which is proprietary to RIM. If the integration is lacking or missing, then it is just another app on the iPhone/Android phone, such as Whatsapp.
What is the benefit for Apple, Google, or RIM? RIM's BBM is one of the app on BlackBerry that is a huge customer stickiness. If RIM looses this stickiness they will also loose some customers.
The major benefit would be to Apple, Google, and RIM customers. The losers would be MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, etc...

Project Management and the iPad
Every Project Manager with an iPad need to get this app, from the iTunes Store http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pm-network/id401224450?mt=8
Reading the PM Network magazine has just become a lot easier than thumbing through the magazine. The usability is out of this world and it is a lot better than most magazine apps. I have switched from paper to the digital edition; this month is the second issue I shall read on my iPad.

Is Net Neutrality a fading dream?
Why are the Titans (Verizon and Google) forming an alliance to curb web usage by eliminating "Net Neutrality" as smart phones usage is increasing? If we have Net Neutrality then we would be "free" from monitoring by the giants.
With the elimination of Net Neutrality these Titans will be monitoring our usage for billing us. There is nothing wrong with billing but I rather pay for my usage with an understanding that these carriers are not scrutinizing what I'm sending across there network.
I'm a "transparent users" if my packets have zero interest, but if these Titans analyze my packets to ensure the "special service" I paid for is being met, then they are able to push advertisement to my computer etc. On the other hand, I pay for how many packets I send across the network then there should be zero interest in the contents of my packet.
From experience it is loosing battle (we the users of the Internet) to have 100% net neutrality, since these Titans will justified "why they cannot afford" net neutrality. The reason they will give is the cost for building out the network to support so many users. They will also say "it is not the regular users causing network congestions but those college students downloading musics and movies." But, if we all pay for usage instead of our guaranteed band the "paying field" would be level.
Net providers are utility companies, oh! Utility companies are usage based.
